The Problems With Equifax’s Proposed Remedy
A free year of credit monitoring provided by Equifax is the company's proposed remedy to consumers affected by the breach. But to qualify, ironically, you have to give Equifax some personal information, such as the last six digits of your social security number. Moreover, the remedy is only available free for one year, whereas the stolen info can be used for years. But that's only part of the problem. The larger problem is how much of a political football this whole thing is becoming and how it might distort the optics of the real issues at hand. [9/12/17]
