Judge Throws Out American Express Antitrust Settlement
On the heels of a story we posted yesterday about the credit card settlement between Visa, Mastercard and retailers being in jeopardy due to improper communications between opposing counsel, a federal judge has thrown out a proposed settlement of merchant antitrust claims against American Express for the same reason. The judge had preliminarily approved a $79 million class action settlement before evidence of the communications was brought to light. [8/5/15]
