HUD Hits Bank for Denying Loan to Woman on Maternity Leave
A bank in Pennsylvania has been hit with a $115,000 penalty for telling a female applicant she would need to return to work before her application for a home equity line of credit would be approved. HUD points out that the Fair Housing Act makes it unlawful to discriminate on the basis of familial status, including denying a loan because a woman is pregnant or on family leave. [8/1/16]
