FTC Takes Down Tricky Mortgage Relief Scheme
The defendants told homeowners they could get at least $75,000 on their homes through mass joinder lawsuits, which combined hundreds of consumers in the same matter. But unlike a class-action lawsuit, in the event of a trial, each plaintiff in a mass joinder suit would have to provide his or her case separately. The defendants never prevailed in such a case.
