The FTC is going after a North Carolina debt collection operation for going after consumers for fake debts they didn't owe. The FTC says that the operation bought loans supposedly made by "500FastCash" and then continued to attempt to collect on the debts even after learning the debts were fake and getting a refund for its purchase. The action is part of the FTC's crackdown on "phantom" debt collection. [6/26/17]
